Cochin’s history

Cochin sits on the eastern shore of Jackfish Lake, on the isthmus that separates Jackfish and Murray Lakes in the Rural Municipality of Meota No. 468. Before the village existed, French traders called the area les Détroits.

The community was founded by Father Louis Cochin, a French-born missionary of the Oblate Order, who started it as a Christian mission. The village takes its name from him.

Cochin was incorporated as a resort village on January 1, 1988. Today it is reached from Highway 4, and the Cochin Bridge carries pedestrians across Lehman Creek into the village.
